A tri-wheeled stroller is ideal for off-road terrain and provides an easy ride for babies. Three-wheeled buggys are very stable, making them an ideal choice for off-road walking (especially when equipped with a seat unit that is all-terrain or off-road). Seating

The capacity for seating of 3 wheelers is quite impressive, and there are a number of different choices to choose from. The included carrycot plus is perfect for newborns (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfy and cozy lay-flat bed that can be used both in and out of the buggy). Older babies and toddlers will appreciate the spacious and comfortable seat unit with adjustable ventilation. It's important to note that these seats don't recline fully however, they can be lowered to the lowest level which will give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A sling made of fabric is also available. It's a benefit that it is located inside the frame instead of on top as a modular seat. This results in a lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this type of seat handled challenges.

This kind of buggy comes with a large basket and other useful features such as an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal, and some unique visibility lights that can be positioned in front of occupants for improved safety on difficult terrain.

Storage

The 3-wheeled model is more stable and can be pushed with just one hand. It's also better for terrains that are difficult to navigate. However, it means that the shopping basket doesn't hold as much as a four-wheeled buggy.

A good quality ATP will come with a great suspension, pneumatic tyres and padding for the handle to ensure your convenience. It will accommodate a carrycot or a car seat, meaning you can use it from birth.

MFM's reviewers discovered that the 3-wheeler frames didn't pass through their doors at home or car boot. If you're concerned about space, be sure you check the dimensions of the buggy once it is folded prior to purchasing.

It's worth considering 3-wheelers that can accommodate two (or even 3!) seats as your family grows. They are the most efficient of both and future proof your money. The iCandy strawberry sport is one of the top of them; it can be used as a single seat from day dot, and then transforms into twin buggies once your baby starts walking.

Tyres

These tires cushion bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more comfortable. They are commonly included on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport, which MFM reviewer Kath said was "an amazing ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres of the Phil and Ted's Sport made it easy for her to maneuver around kerbs and other obstacles.

They can be difficult to maintain and will require air pressure topped up regularly. These tyres are more prone to punctures, so it is recommended to always carry a repair kit and spare inner tube with you when you're out and out and about.

PU tyres can be found on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres but they are still just as sturdy. You can identify PU tires by their smooth appearance and soft texture. They also slide on flat and tidy surfaces.

You can usually tell the difference between air-filled and PU tyres by running your hand over them, if it feels firm, then it's rubber and if it slides then it's a PU. You can also check that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by slipping the tyres on flat, clean surfaces - they'll be able to roll easily and should fit snugly into their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can withstand the rough terrain of high-performance buggies. This can make your buggy less stable as the foam loses its springy quality. The tyres can also be noisy, as they make lots of noise when you turn and drive around the town.
